“I just got back from Asia where I met the Leaders of many Countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and others. It was a Great Honor to meet them but, more particularly, to see that America is respected again — RESPECTED LIKE NEVER BEFORE! Great Trade Deals were made, Long Term relationships now exist, and money is pouring into our Country because of Tariffs and, frankly, the Landslide Results of the 2024 Presidential Election. The one question that kept coming up, however, was how did the Democrats SHUT DOWN the United States of America, and why did the powerful Republicans allow them to do it? The fact is, in flying back, I thought a great deal about that question, WHY? Majority Leader John Thune, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, are doing a GREAT job, but the Democrats are Crazed Lunatics that have lost all sense of WISDOM and REALITY. It is a sick form of the now legendary Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) that only comes from losing too much. They want Trillions of Dollars to be taken from our Healthcare System and given to others, who are not deserving — People who have come into our Country illegally, many from prisons and mental institutions. This will hurt American citizens, and Republicans will not let it happen. It is now time for the Republicans to play their TRUMP CARD, and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW! Just a short while ago, the Democrats, while in power, fought for three years to do this, but were unable to pull it off because of Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. Never have the Democrats fought so hard to do something because they knew the tremendous strength that terminating the Filibuster would give them. They want to substantially expand (PACK!) the United States Supreme Court, make Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico States (Thereby automatically picking up 4 Senate seats, many House seats, and at least 8 Electoral Votes!), and many other highly destructive things. Well, now WE are in power, and if we did what we should be doing, it would IMMEDIATELY end this ridiculous, Country destroying SHUT DOWN. If the Democrats ever came back into power, which would be made easier for them if the Republicans are not using the Great Strength and Policies made available to us by ending the Filibuster, the Democrats will exercise their rights, and it will be done in the first day they take office, regardless of whether or not we do it. In addition to all of the other things we would get, such as the best Judges, the best U.S. Attorneys, the best of everything, this was a concept from years ago of then President Barack Hussein Obama and former Majority Leader Harry Reid in order to take advantage of the Republicans. Now I want to do it in order to take advantage of the Democrats….” @realDonaldTrump

Fact-Check Summary

Trump’s post about his Asia trip, the ongoing government shutdown, and proposals to eliminate the Senate filibuster presents a mix of factual events, contested interpretations, and debunked assertions. While it is accurate that he recently returned from Asia and met with numerous leaders, and there were trade initiatives, his claims about America being “respected like never before” and the 2024 election being a “landslide” are not supported by polling or historical election data. Statements on Democrats’ roles in the shutdown, immigration from “prisons and mental institutions,” and “Trump Derangement Syndrome” are misleading, opinion-based, or formally debunked. Some depictions of Democratic policy goals are based on filed legislation but are exaggerated in motive and impact.

Belief Alignment Analysis

The post’s rhetoric often undermines democratic norms through inflammatory and divisive language, particularly in derogatory descriptions of opponents and broad generalizations. While it references legitimate procedural debates and policy differences—such as regarding the filibuster and statehood proposals—it commonly distorts opposing positions and ascribes malicious intent absent supporting evidence. Such framing detracts from constructive, inclusive civic discourse and undermines trust in democratic institutions by presenting complex processes as partisan weaponry rather than principled disagreement. Exaggerations and hyperbolic accusations erode the standards of public reason and fairness essential to a healthy democracy.

Opinion

Public factual discourse, especially from influential political leaders, should rest on verified information and foster mutual respect between parties. While political disagreement and criticism are vital parts of democracy, they must be grounded in accuracy and civility. Hyperbolic language, unsupported claims about immigrants, and character attacks contribute to public confusion and polarization, rather than resolving policy disputes or strengthening accountability. Democratic processes rely on the good-faith participation of all sides and respect for shared facts.

TLDR

Trump’s post mixes some factual activity (his Asia meetings, trade agreements, and references to filibuster history) with inaccurate, debunked, or exaggerated claims about the 2024 election, immigration, and shutdown responsibility. The rhetoric prioritizes partisan division over informed, inclusive civic engagement and does not align with the standards of democratic public reason and accountability.

Claim: America is respected like never before, the 2024 election was a landslide, Democrats are solely responsible for the shutdown, and immigrants from prisons/mental institutions are flooding the country.

Fact: Trump’s Asia trip and meetings are verified, but claims regarding unmatched respect, a “landslide” election, sole shutdown responsibility, and criminal immigration are unsupported or directly refuted by public opinion data, historical context, and expert analysis.

Opinion: The post relies on divisive and exaggerated rhetoric, undermining civil democratic discourse and public trust through distortion and hyperbole.

TruthScore: 3

True: Trump met Asian leaders; trade deals were discussed; Democrats proposed court expansion and statehood; Manchin/Sinema blocked Democratic filibuster efforts.

Hyperbole: “Respected like never before”; “landslide” election; universal Democratic blame for shutdown; immediate transformation from ending filibuster; court packing motives as purely partisan.

Lies: Immigrants from prisons/mental institutions systematically entering the US; Democrats seeking to destroy healthcare for Americans in favor of undocumented immigrants.
